A Quilt Collaboration

This is the first quilt kit collaboration between myself and Paula Steel of PaulaSteelQuilts.

This rainbowtastic quilt has been designed to incorporate all 12 of Libs Elliotts’ Phosphor fabrics to create a gorgeous 72½”  quilt.

The kit comes in a choice off either Dark background using Makower Linen Texture in Navy. Or a Light background using a pure white solid.

The pattern uses simple half square triangles, flying geese, strips and squares, this will prove a great quilt for beginners and experienced quilters alike.

If you need some extra help or just fancy being part of the gang then we’ll be running a Sew Along in January, with lots of tips and tricks.

If you were lucky enough to pre-order you fabrics and you already have a gorgeous Fat Quarter Bundle of Phosphor, or any other rainbow print then you can now order the stand alone pattern too. We have a very limited number of printed patterns or you can opt for a PDF download.

I cannot believe that the weeks are flying by and we are already at the launch of the second Mystery Quilt of 2020.

The quilt for Summer/Autumn 2020 is called “Are You Game?” and each of the four colourway options are named after a game of some variety. Is your favourite game in there?

If you have never heard of the Mystery Quilt then let me fill you in with what is on offer. This is a quilt designed by Sheila Christensen @mysteryquilter and it is a puzzle quilt over 10 months.

Each parcel contains that month’s puzzle instructions and all the pre-cut fabric pieces to make the blocks. Pieces are kept simple: triangles, squares and rectangles and at the end the final puzzle is revealed to give you a beautiful finished quilt top.

It is a Mystery or puzzle as you don’t know what the finished quilt will look like until the final reveal, but the quilts are very cleverly designed by Sheila and always turn out fabulous.

Each of these four colourways I have carefully selected for you to choose from so I hope you see something that takes your fancy?

Kerplunk

The first collection is a special selection from Tula Pink’s Homemade fabric line.

A must for any Tula fan out there.

Uno

Another firm favourite is always Alison Glass and she doesn’t disappoint with her Sunprints 2020.

Cluedo

In this unique collection for Modern Quilt Club I have brought together a selection of Makower’s Cotton Linen Texture and Linea fabrics.

Scrabble

A new fabric company for me this time around and this fabulous Stag & Thistle from Northcott is my final selection.

This fab selection of prints go so well together, this is an exciting one.

Do you fancy joining my sewing gang?

Have you always fancied learning to Quilt but not sure where to begin? Do you have a sewing machine that you’ve been meaning to dust off and get back to some creating but not sure where to start?

Well I have just the answer to get you back into stitching and I’d like your input please.

I run a monthly Quilt club where over 10 months you receive all fabrics pre-cut to sew up individual sections, all with simple laid out instructions. and in the final month you receive instructions to complete the quilt top.

From my experience I know there will be lots of you out there who’ve been wanting to have a go at patchwork or try your first Quilt. Usually people think of quilts made from babygrows or kids old clothes for a memory Quilt, DON’T DO IT, they’re not easy and could put you off for life.

Mystery quilt is great because it all comes pre-cut, did I mention that already? So all you need is to pick up the pieces and start sewing.

Is a Sewing group for you?

So I thought it would be nice to set up a sewing group as I know it can be scary taking that first step.

A relaxed, friendly group for everyone of all abilities to enjoy. No patchwork experience necessary, just a basic knowledge of how to work your sewing machine.

I’m planning to hire a room where you can bring along your machine & your Quilt box and I will guide you through sewing the blocks. Showing you the basic principles of patchwork sewing along the way. Giving you confidence to create your own quilt.

What you would need:
Your own sewing machine
1/4″ patchwork foot with or without a guide
Basic sewing kit: scissors, threads, spare machine needles
A subscription to my mystery quilt
A basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine.

What I would provide:
A room located in Leeds for us to sew together with tables and chairs, electricity cables, ironing stations, and most importantly teas, coffees & biscuits.
The knowledge to guide you through constructing the blocks and following the pattern instructions.
Hints and tips on general patchwork techniques

I’d love it if you could please fill out this short survey so that I can get an idea of numbers. I’ve a few options available and need an idea of the direction to take. So with your help we might just have a new Leeds based sewing group.

Here we go the first Mystery Quilt release for 2020.

The quilt for Spring 2020 is called “Name of the Rose” and each of the colourway options are named after a Rose variety.

If you have never heard of the Mystery Quilt then you are in for a real treat.

I have carefully selected the following four colourways for you to choose from so I hope you see something that takes your fancy?

Electron is a mixture of Declassified & Spectrastatic by Giucy Giuce. As you can see this is going to have some fabulous pops of colour.

Iceberg, is made from Libs Elliott’s Greatest Hits collection and is a lovely calming quilt top made up of these blue and green hues. It has the addition of some little sneaks of metallic prints in there too.

Another collection from Giucy Giuce’s Declassified and Spectrastatic collections. But this time we have a vibrant mix of pinks and purples.

Finally, we have Paradise made from a selection of Handiwork prints from Alison Glass.

What is Mystery quilt I hear you say? Well for those of you that missed out on the fun of last year’s club then I’m pleased to say that in partnership with Sheila Christensen @mysteryquilter I am bringing back the Mystery Quilt club for spring 2019.

Stratford – Mystery Quilt Spring 2019

It’s quite simply a puzzle quilt and the best thing about it is all the fabric for the quilt top comes to you pre-cut. That’s right you just pick up your box and sew. I do all the hard work for you!

You will receive ten parcels each containing that month’s puzzle instructions and all the pre-cut fabric pieces to make the blocks. Pieces are kept simple: triangles, squares and rectangles and at the end the final puzzle is revealed to give you a beautiful finished quilt top.

The colourways that I will be releasing will be revealed over the next week, I can confirm I have four and maybe even five if I can secure one more collection to share with you. So you will have a nice selection of fabrics and colourways to choose from.

The quilts will come in two sizes but due to fabric restriction not all colourways will be available in the small size. All will be confirmed as each collection is released.

Quilt top finished size:

Small quilt – 48″ x 60″

Large quilt – 72″ x 72″

Sign ups for the club will be taken from Saturday 9th February and the first puzzle pieces will be sent out on the 1st March 2019. Subsequent months will be posted on the first Friday of the month.

Due to the timings of when I have been able to launch the club it does mean that we are one month behind the USA and Australia. As such I am planning to make month one a double month and you will receive both puzzle one and two so we can catch up.

Sheila offers a great Facebook group for any users and it is a worldwide community all sewing up the same puzzles in so many different fabrics. It is a great place to meet other people in the club. So I want to make sure we don’t miss out or become out of sync with the mystery being revealed so this works perfectly.

I will offer the club with a monthly subscription or the option to pay in full. If you opt for a subscription It will be an immediate payment of two months, followed by 8th monthly payments on the last day of the month, running from March to October.

The small quilt will be £178, or initial payment of £34, plus eight monthly payments of £18 (all prices include UK postage).

The large quilt is £228, or an initial payment of £44, plus eight monthly payments of £23 (all prices include UK postage).

That should cover all of the finer details of the club and how it will work, all that is left to do is wait for the fabric selections. Watch this space… or more importantly make sure you are signed up to my newsletter and go give all the social media channels a big love and a follow. There is links to them all just at the bottom of the page. xx

To give you a little clarity and help avoid any confusion I wanted to give you a little heads-up on what to expect when the tickets are launched tomorrow, as there are different ticket options available to you.

Welcome to the Modern Quilt Club, a new venture from Lisa Naylor.

The club will begin with two weekend retreats in 2019, hosted by Lisa at Gomersal Park Hotel, building on experience from the past four years—and a half dozen retreats. I hope that I can bring you another fun filled weekend and maybe some sewing!

Set in its own lovely grounds, we stay in a luxury spa hotel, which offers us some great little extras along with the sewing. We have 24 hours access to our own private sewing room, where you can come and go as you please to sew, and hang out with other retreaters. If you fancy, you can nip off for a quick dip in the pool or make use of the gym. For a small fee you can upgrade to use the full hotel spa facilities for the day. This is your retreat weekend, and yes, it is a quilting weekend but it is your time to do as you wish and enjoy!

The hotel offers great accommodation with all the rooms being twins if sharing or usually a double bed if you opt for a single room (at an additional supplement). They are all en-suite with all the usual mod cons.

I like to keep the weekend very relaxed and let the guests spend their time as they wish. We meet up at noon on Friday, let people settle in and crack on with sewing. You bring along your own projects and sewing equipment and just dive into the weekend.

Then we start with the food (and we are fed very well all weekend) with a buffet lunch Friday, afternoon teas usually with cake or homemade cookies and then a 3 course meal at Massimo, the in-house Italian restaurant. The only extra you need to buy is any wine or drinks from the bar with your meal.

On Saturday we are treated to a choice of full English or cold breakfast selection, a buffet lunch and a three-course meal again. With regular tea and coffee served throughout the day. When Sunday arrives we again have breakfast, buffet lunch and we finish the day with afternoon teas at 4pm before heading home.

You will be given the chance to participate in a couple of small workshops throughout the weekend. A guest tutor will join our group and will share skill or patterns that we can all learn. Full details will be revealed once we have everyone join the club.

The main aim and ethos of the weekend is to enjoy a relaxing weekend of sewing, meeting up with friends and generally having a great time and lots of laughter. If you go away with a new skill or have created a new little project then that just adds to the fun of the weekend.
