Welcome to the Modern Quilt Club, a new venture from Lisa Naylor.

The club will begin with two weekend retreats in 2019, hosted by Lisa at Gomersal Park Hotel, building on experience from the past four years—and a half dozen retreats. I hope that I can bring you another fun filled weekend and maybe some sewing!

Set in its own lovely grounds, we stay in a luxury spa hotel, which offers us some great little extras along with the sewing. We have 24 hours access to our own private sewing room, where you can come and go as you please to sew, and hang out with other retreaters. If you fancy, you can nip off for a quick dip in the pool or make use of the gym. For a small fee you can upgrade to use the full hotel spa facilities for the day. This is your retreat weekend, and yes, it is a quilting weekend but it is your time to do as you wish and enjoy!

The hotel offers great accommodation with all the rooms being twins if sharing or usually a double bed if you opt for a single room (at an additional supplement). They are all en-suite with all the usual mod cons.

I like to keep the weekend very relaxed and let the guests spend their time as they wish. We meet up at noon on Friday, let people settle in and crack on with sewing. You bring along your own projects and sewing equipment and just dive into the weekend.

Then we start with the food (and we are fed very well all weekend) with a buffet lunch Friday, afternoon teas usually with cake or homemade cookies and then a 3 course meal at Massimo, the in-house Italian restaurant. The only extra you need to buy is any wine or drinks from the bar with your meal.

On Saturday we are treated to a choice of full English or cold breakfast selection, a buffet lunch and a three-course meal again. With regular tea and coffee served throughout the day. When Sunday arrives we again have breakfast, buffet lunch and we finish the day with afternoon teas at 4pm before heading home.

You will be given the chance to participate in a couple of small workshops throughout the weekend. A guest tutor will join our group and will share skill or patterns that we can all learn. Full details will be revealed once we have everyone join the club.

The main aim and ethos of the weekend is to enjoy a relaxing weekend of sewing, meeting up with friends and generally having a great time and lots of laughter. If you go away with a new skill or have created a new little project then that just adds to the fun of the weekend.
